Exploring the Americas

The Americas here covers the continents of North America (including the Central American countries) and South America. The ultimate journey in the Americas is to drive the Pan-American Highway from Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, at the top of North America, 30,000 kms south to Ushuaia, Argentina, a the southern tip of South America, if you’re up for an extreme challenge.

But don’t worry, there are endless options for less extreme, but rewarding trips in the Americas, including visits to 50 varied States of America, exploring the beauty and wilderness of Canada, enjoying the tropical climates and Mayan temples of Central America, remembering ancient civilisations at Machu Picchu or on Easter Island, tasting wine in the vineyards of Argentina and Chile, and so much more.  The difficulty will be deciding where to go…

Choose your country in the Americas:

Canada

Think of Canada and you’ll no doubt think of the Rocky Mountains and quite rightly so, as they are stunning.  You might also think of Mounties, moose and bears – all are present and correct, along with so much more to explore.

From rocky coastal vistas in the eastern Provinces, to temperate rainforest and surf beaches in the West on Vancouver Island, sweeping grasslands of the middle of the country, and arctic terrain of the Northern Territory – Canada offers variety, space to escape and endless beauty.

Costa Rica

Costa Rica has it all for a family holiday – stunning sandy beaches, tropical rainforest and wildlife preserves, cloud forest, volcanoes and hot springs, and turtle laying beaches.  The eco-tourism focus is still strong and very much in evidence when you visit.

Even better, the country is relatively small and so driving distances and good roads make it perfect for a road trip to visit various different locations. But best of all, you will receive a warm welcome and quickly falls under the charms of its scenery and its people.

Mexico

Mexico is a large and diverse country, stretching from the USA in the north, to Guatemala and Belize in the south.

Choose from white sand beaches on the Caribbean coast for a relaxing break and snorkelling on the 2nd largest coral reef in the world, or catch some surf waves on the wilder Pacific coast.

Explore ancient Mayan ruins including Chichen Itza, UNESCO World Heritage Site and Wonder of the World, or seek out the boho vibe in spiritual Tulum. You have plenty of options here!

USA

Are you taking the 50 State Challenge to visit all 50 States in your lifetime?  Why not have a go, when there is something special to see in each of these varied States.

From the wilds of Alaska, to the volcanic vibes of Hawaii, laid back California, the golden hues of the New England states in Fall, artsy New Mexico, the majestic Rocky Mountain states, rugged coastline of Oregon, desert rock formations of Utah and Arizona, the music, history and food of the Deep South.  The list goes on.  I like a project so, Challenge accepted!
